The Forbidden City, located in the centre of Beijing, was the imperial palace of the Ming and Qing dynasties. Completed in the early 15th century, it served for centuries as the residence of Chinese emperors, their families, and members of the imperial court. It was also one of the most important political and ceremonial centres of imperial China.
After the end of the Qing dynasty, the palace complex was gradually transformed into a museum. Today, the Forbidden City is managed by the Palace Museum, which preserves its historic buildings, artworks, and imperial collections. It is now one of China’s most important cultural heritage sites and is open to visitors from around the world.
